Omega threes- found in salmon can help to prevent heart attacks and help boost brain function. Omegas also promote healthy skin, hair and nails. The Sparck Sisters- Michelle, Cika, and Amy are Native triplets from Chevak Alaska. They’ve combined their knowledge of local botanicals with the power of salmon oil to create a super skin product line called Arxotica.

“Advocacy is what we know. And we knew harvesting, because we grew up as gatherers, so we thought that is something we can work with, it is a plentiful resource and it is good for you, and we thought it would be really good ingredient source for skincare or cosmetics.”
Michelle Sparck credits the salmon oil in the serum. It is what won them first place in the Beyond the Plate category at this year’s Alaska Symphony of Seafoods. She says their ingredients are of the land and sea.
“Part of what we have used that is of the sea is the extra virgin cold pressed salmon oil in our formula. We wanted to add the omega properties to a really potent blend of botanicals that were really high in antioxidants.”
Cika Sparck says they use a trio of ingredients.
“The berry we use is crowberry, because it’s not just a hearty berry nutrition wise, but it is also a tough berry. The next is the tundra plant Arctic Sage. We call it Eskimo medicine because no matter how we use it, it is very good for us. Its Eskimo name is “Ciaggluk”, which translates to nothing bad about it; because no matter how you use it it’s good for you. And then the flower is fireweed blossom.”
All of the plants are harvested in the traditional subsistence way of life. The Sparck sisters want their customers to feel the benefits of their all natural products, that are hand picked from their resource rich lands.
“It came from our steep labor and it is really good stuff. It’s ingredients that we have trusted for thousands of years and so we can give trust to our customers.”
