Reports from the fishing grounds after the first 12-hour opener at the Copper River say that prices for sockeyes and kings continue to climb to unprecedented levels.

A few hours into the opener prices were reported at $8.50/lb for sockeyes and $13 for king salmon. The sockeye price crept up to $9.50 by late afternoon.

By 7:30pm, Alaska Wild Seafoods said their price had increased to $10/lb for reds and $15 for kings with $.65 dock bonuses everywhere.

Shortly thereafter, the prices increased again to $10.65 for sockeyes and $15.65 for king salmon.

The low production from the first opener had buyers competing for fish to fill special coast to coast promotions for the famous “first of the season” fish from Copper River.
