For 50 years, it’s been the most popular West Coast trade show for anyone who makes their living on the water,  and the event continues to grow.  Pacific Marine Expo, commonly called Fish Expo, has bragging rights as one of the nation’s top trade shows, and it’s even bigger this year.

We are going to be 522 companies strong  this year and 90 of them are brand new to the show. So it just continues to grow year over year.

Denielle Christensen is Expo Director. In this day of internet shopping, she says nothing can replace the hands on and networking of a real event.

Trade shows always bring that really unique face to face experience. People want to see each other, they want to look at and touch and feel and smell the products they are thinking about buying, they want to talk with someone about them and they really enjoy doing that in a face to face environment.

Among the lineup of seminars:  selling your own catch, crew duties during emergencies, marine connectivity, salmon habitat and the importance of bait. There’s the popular Fishermen of the Year competition and Highliner awards, sponsored by National Fisherman.  Keynote speaker, Bob Desautel of Global Seas will reveal what he sees for the future of the commercial fishing industry. And, Christensen says, several new features will be on the 70,000 foot show floor, including a program called Safety 101 –

And it has 11 workshops that are solely based on safety information. That’s new this year. We’ve added a job fair for folks that are job seeking or people seeking to hire people. We’ve added an amazing space called the fishermen’s lounge where everyone can come in and see art and history and relax and take a break from the floor.

Fifteen companies have signed up for the Job Fair so far, and many more are expected. Pacific Marine Expo is set for November 17-19 at the Century Link Field in Seattle.  Note that the dates have switched from a mid- week back to a Thursday through Saturday schedule.

We had to squeeze our show in between another event and a football game but we got it in there!
