The Alaska legislature convenes today and the goings on will be featured in a new weekly publication called Juneau Resources Weekly.
It will be covering environmental and fisheries issues throughout the legislative session down in Juneau this winter. I’ll be covering everything from bill hearings, committee actions and the budget process – mostly focusing on the environment and fisheries issues. It will come out as the name suggests every week by email.
Dave Theriault is producer of the new weekly. He has worked in and around the capitol since 2008 after earning a law degree with a focus on environmental and Natural resources law. Theriault served as a legislative aide for two years and most recently directed legislative relations for a number of conservation groups. He also has fished commercially in Southeast and fishes each summer at Bristol Bay.
I started fishing recently gillnetting and really caught the fisheries bug. I’m really interested in digging in and learning a lot more about how fish policies work in the state and I realize that the legislature is just one piece of the puzzle but I really want to learn a lot more about that.
The weekly will be distributed via email every Friday morning starting Jan. 23 and continue during the session. Theriault also will send out special bulletins to subscribers as things happen.
I think everyone who knows how things word in Juneau, that sometimes there are fast moving actions that come up. Folks need to know within an hour or so what’s happening and I’ll be send out short quick, updates on that kind of stuff. I’m definitely going to try and get the most critical has information out as quickly as possible.
Theriault also will provide a website blog. Subscription rates vary and discounts are available as the legislature gets underway this week. Visit www.JuneauResourcesWeekly.com 907 723 9944 email@example.com
Fish Radio is also brought to you by Ocean Beauty Seafoods – who salutes and says thanks to the men and women fishing across Alaska for their hard work and dedication. (www.oceanbeauty.com) In Kodiak, I’m Laine Welch.
