Salmon Beyond Borders and the United Tribal Transboundary Mining Working Group will hold community presentations in five Southeast communities this month to educate the public about several large-scale mines planned for the transboundary river region. The public forums, organized for Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Wrangell, and Petersburg, will provide opportunities for residents to learn about the planned open-pit mines in northwest British Columbia and their potential impacts on Southeast Alaska’s commercial, sport, and traditional and customary fisheries.

Schedule of community meetings that are free and open to the public:

Juneau: Friday, October 24. Centennial Hall. 6 pm.

Sitka: Monday, October 27. Keet Gooshi Heen School. 6 pm.

Wrangell: Tuesday, October 28. Nolan Center. 6 pm.

Petersburg: Wednesday, October 29. Petersburg High School. 6 pm.

Ketchikan: Thursday, October 30. Southeast Discovery Center. 6 pm.
