Executive Director Job Description — Position open until filled. The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the organization. The Executive Director must maintain a thorough understanding of all UFA business and activities in order to assist the UFA President, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating positions, programs and courses of action.

The Executive Director reports to the President, and serves under the guidance of the UFA Board of Directors and shall carry out the objectives of UFA through communications with legislative and administrative government, private agencies, fishing organizations, individual fishermen, media and other external contacts.

The Executive Director shall assist the UFA President, Executive Committee, and the UFA Board in the development and appropriate dissemination of UFA external positions and internal policies and is responsible for alerting the UFA Board regarding possible “issues” and proposed positions for UFA. The Executive Director shall be responsible for internal communication with UFA member organizations and the UFA membership.

The Executive Director serves as a non-voting ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and all standing committees of UFA. Lobbying and Communications The Executive Director shall coordinate UFA lobbying activities at the direction of the UFA President. The Executive Director shall plan and organize meetings with elected officials and agency staff and UFA board members as needed to further establish legislative objectives. It is expected that such duties during legislative session are likely to surpass the threshold for lobbying activity, so E.D. should expect to register as a lobbyist with the State of Alaska Public Offices Commission.
