The salmon season numbers keep racking up. As of Last Friday the Statewide salmon total  topped 241 million fish.  Pinks have hit an all time high coming in at almost 192 million breaking the 2005 record of 161 million pink salmon.

Kodiak ‘s pink forecast exceeded the predicted 17 million fish by an extra 6 million pinks so far.

In Southeast pinks come in at a whopping 72 million fish out of a 54 million forecast.
Pinks aren’t the only ones coming on strong.

Halibut Long liners have caught sixty-nine percent of the nearly 22 million pound catch limit leaving around six and a half million pounds to go.

Sablefish is at seventy-one percent landed of the 28 million pound  quota with just over 8 million pounds left in the season. Halibut and sablefish will wrap up early November.

Out in the Bering Sea…

Pollock and cod fishing is on going.

Golden King crab fishermen have been going after their 6.3 Million pound limit since the 15th of August.

And next month crabbers will know what the catch quotas will be for red king crab at Bristol Bay and Bering Sea snow crab.  Both of those big fisheries get underway in mid-October.

The Alaska Board of Fish kicks off their its meetings early October with 376 proposals for this year’s meeting cycle. They will focus on Cook Inlet, Kodiak, and Chignik fisheries. First up is state water P cod.
